Start by understanding the loop

Elderfield is not a pure farming sim. The developer’s own tutorial breaks play into farming, gathering, home making, community, and staying alive. Those systems feed each other: farming and gathering supply cooking/crafting; forging improves survival; tasks open new areas; news and mysteries push you back out into the world.

Your first high-value goals

  1. Meet Farmer Hans and unlock farm use. Early farm tasks teach the crop loop and later unlock recipes/seeds.
  2. Keep Cleansing Balm instead of selling it. It removes Ghost Tentacles that block usable crop plots.
  3. Treat food as expedition fuel. The developer specifically warns that dangerous areas can exhaust your supplies; cooking is not cosmetic.
  4. Upgrade gear when progression starts to feel punishing. Long-form demo footage shows a clear wall where better crafted equipment matters more than brute-forcing encounters.
  5. Watch the news. Daily reports point to anomalies and are part of the mystery loop.

Farming basics that are safe to rely on

Plant seeds on prepared soil, water every day, and harvest after the required nights. Unwatered crops stop growing rather than instantly dying. Ghost Tentacles must be cleared before plots can be used.

Exploration rule that prevents wasted runs

If you are low on food or healing, turn back. Bathing restores HP/MP and clears many temporary effects, but it also resets defeated monsters and world mysteries, so a bath can erase expedition progress.
